The archive in numbers
Everything below is counted live from the catalog when you load this page. No estimates, no rounding up, and nothing carried over from a figure somebody typed once.
- Titles catalogued81991 onwards

What these numbers mean
Titles catalogued counts approved catalog entries: a title with its metadata, art and history recorded, whether or not it runs here yet. Cataloguing is preservation too, and it is most of the work on any title nobody has managed to get booting.
Playable in a browser is the stricter number, and the one worth watching. It counts titles with a live build that starts from the page, with nothing to install and no DOS setup. The difference between the two figures is the backlog.
Community uploads are the manuals, screenshots, soundtracks and builds that people sent in and an editor accepted. Rejected and pending submissions are not counted, because a queue is not a collection.
How the catalog is looked after
Everything published here passes an editor before it goes live, and every administrative change is written to an internal action log. That log exists so the team can answer “who changed this, and when” about any row in the database, and it is reviewed when something looks wrong.
We read every message we get, including the ones we would rather not. If you hold rights to something here, or you think an entry is wrong, write to us and a person will answer. Uploaders’ personal details are never passed on to anyone who complains about their upload.
How the archive is paid for
dos.games is community-driven and intended to stay free to use. Audited financial figures will be published here once there is a full reporting period to publish, because a partial year of numbers is worse than none.
